With all the custom glove companies out there, I wanted to clear up a few things for people looking to buy custom gloves. There are about 4 levels of quality in the custom glove market in my opinion. I'll briefly describe them here.
1. I'll call these the south of the border gloves. These are the gloves that are made in Mexico. There are a few manufacturers in Mexico but all of their gloves are comparable in quality. They generally offer the most customization and are the most affordable. They are made from steerhide leather and cost around $150 per glove. This is the majority of custom gloves that you see out there. Quality is comparable no matter which company you go with. If someone says their Mexican factory is better than another, chances are they are made at the same place as there are only so many manufactures in Mexico. I offer this type of glove. These would also be the Gloveman gloves, Rock Customs, just to name a few.
2. Kip Leather - Generally these will come from the ASIA markets to get the good quality kip leather. They are high quality and do offer some good customizations. These generally range around the $225 or so per glove. HuffDawg Customs does offer this option as well. Other examples are S2N, and 44 pro. There could be different manufactures, but the quality of the leather and craftsmanship is definitely higher.
3. This group would be the custom gloves you get from the big manufacturers (i.e. Wilson, Rawlings,Nokona) They are generally $300+ depending on the style and brand.
4. The last group and potentially most expensive would be the one off type shops that do truly custom gloves. These generally start in the 350+ range. You can research these, but they are truly top of the line and expensive. I can't find the name of the company, but the guy uses synthetic leather and they are like $400+.
Most companies will fall in these 4 categories. Some will fall in between these, but for the most part, don't think that one Mexican glove company is necessarily better than the others. There aren't that many factories making gloves in Mexico. There are many in Asia however so be careful. I would avoid any gloves from the Middle East.
